Prom 2011

Gear up in your glamour gowns, spectacular hair-do’s, and high heels because it’s that time of year again, ladies! Prom is right around the corner and we have Jenny Altman, former Fashion Market Editor from “O, The Oprah Magazine” to give you advice on what to wear under your prom dress. Check out what Jenny has to say about the ultimate must-have items to wear under your dress so you can look fab out there on the dance floor!

This is not a muffin-top worthy event. You want to make sure you pick smoothing pieces that will help you look slim and smooth under your prom dress. You don’t want lines so choose seamless pieces and be sure to buy them in the right size. A tip I always give women is to go up a size in shapewear so that it can hold you in. When it comes to bras make sure you wear the right bra size, otherwise you’ll be spilling or bulging out of the cups-that’s not hot!   Prom time is actually a great opportunity for a young woman to try on a handful of bras to determine her right size. When it comes to finding your bra size we don’t always recommend measuring. Women come in all different shapes and sizes, so how can one system work for us all? It can’t! It merely is a guide to get you started. Once you find your fit you will look and feel so much better in your bras and more confident. Not to mention your prom gown will look and fit a lot better, too! Take a look at our bra fit check list to help you find your right size:

A few suggestions: If you’re going strapless, make sure the band size is fitted enough so that you don’t have to hike your bra up all night. Make sure the cup size is not too small because you don’t want to be billowing over. Choosing your right bra size for a formal dress is very important since the right bra helps you fit your dress best. Go with black if the dress is black or navy, and choose nude for everything else. Strapless bras are a great investment since you can convert the straps. A great seller:

A strapless bra if you need a little enhancement:

Great for  a backless dress: http://tinyurl.com/SassyBax-Prom-Dress Here are a few other great options I suggest you pair with your prom dress:

A great seamless panty is the perfect starting point. Pick what is comfortable for you, such as a thong or boyshort. As long as they are seamless and not too tight, either of the styles will be good VPL (visible panty lines) crushers! After all, who wants panty lines under their prom gown-yikes! http://tinyurl.com/Commando-Thong-Prom-Dress

Shapewear: Better to buy a size bigger so the shapewear can hold you in. You don’t want to be busting out of your shapewear. Pick a nice all-in-one that shapes all the way from under the bust to the thigh so you are completely smooth under the dress.

OK, so you’re all geared up with what to wear under your prom dress items.  Last tip:

Pack socks in case your feet are in pain from dancing. By the end of the night, nobody will care about the shoes! Have a great prom and enjoy the evening!

Happy New Year to all! What a great year 2011 is going to be, I feel it! A New Year means new resolutions, and hot new items to hit the stores. My biggest resolution is to incorporate new accessories into my wardrobe, and to find something practical and super fantastic that I will love, and actually want to wear- well guess what? My resolution was fulfilled sooner than I could’ve wished for- enter Bootights!
What a genius idea! What are these about you ask? Well, when tights and socks are joined together as one you get Bootights! Yes, the sock is actually attached at the calf or ankle to a pair of tights. They not only offer function but fashion too- Hello! That’s what counts, right!? They are stylish and have fixed my distressing problem about socks slipping off my feet inside my boots (nothing drives me more crazy than that). Never again do all you chic boot lovin’ girls need to feel slouching socks and cold toes inside of your fave pair of boots again. It’s all about warmth and comfort inside one fabulous tight.
Boottights are so perfect for the winter, especially since it came with vengeance for us here on the East Coast. I wear different boot styles all year ‘round; my unbiased opinion- no other footwear is winter appropriate. Therefore, to find a performance sock that is trendy while keeping me warm, and solve the slouching sock problem, I couldn’t ask for more.
I have created a new category in my closet; the tight and sock all-in-one section, hence Bootight! There are two favorite styles of mine that are included in this section.

Bootight: Opaque with Mid-Calf Sock:

BoottightsThese are great for boots that are knee length, because the sock truly accommodates the height of the boot. The quality is superb and the fabric really keeps my feet warm and odor free (yes, thanks to its moisture-wicking and breathable fabric). It’s so comfy with a cushioned toe and heel, and the arch support provides a really nice contoured fit. A dark opaque tight such as black is always a must-have color in your hosiery/sock collection. I always say it’s good to purchase a basic and a fashion color. So my preferred fashion color in this style is Charcoal that I found on www.BareNecessities.com

Bootight: Opaque Tight with Attached Comfort Ankle:

This is a great option to wear with boots that are on the shorter side. They only come up to the ankle, perfect to pair with little ankle booties. The ankle Bootight has the same benefits as the mid-calf sock, which is a BIG plus because consistency in a product is really important to me!

Miraclebody Jeans

Are you ready to look skinnier? What if I told you I have a secret weapon that’ll make you look lean just by slipping into a pair of jeans? Well get ready ladies, because the secret is out! Miraclebody® jeans by Miraclesuit will make you look 10lbs. lighter in ten seconds thanks to their unique tummy control panel. It’ll flatten your tummy, and has two times more spandex than ordinary jeans to lift your bottom & slim your thighs. They’re the ultimate slimming pants!

Miraclebody jeans are my favorite, and it’s amazing to think they’re technically shapewear. It’s nice to know shapewear doesn’t have to be a girdle or hidden under your clothes to do you justice. Luckily, Miraclebody stretch denim jeans are super stylish, comfy, and you aren’t limited to just one style. There are many great Miraclebody jean styles to choose from, some of my favorites are:

Samantha boot cut jeans by MiraclebodyThe Samantha Boot Cut Jeans:Control in pure style! The Samantha Boot Cut is a stylish jean with a little flare. No need to feel packed like sardines when you wear these. You’ll feel comfortable in this slimming pant, while still looking like a fashionista! The firm control with hidden tummy panel sits perfectly on the waist. You don’t feel like they come up too high, or sit too low. They’re just right!

The Skinnie Minnie Mid Rise Shaping Jeans: All I can say is WOW! My favorite feature of these control jeans is how they’re designed to make your legs appear long and lean. Throw on some pumps, a sassy cardigan, and you’re ready for the big city and bright lights!

Denim Shaping Legging:Ok, I know I’ve been talking all about Miraclebody jeans, but they also have firm control shaping leggings. I really love the luxurious dark wash that helps create an ultra lean look, while slimming your thighs and lifting your rear. These are one special pair of leggings, and a pair that I can see myself making room for in my closet.

Katie Denim Shaping Straight Leg Jeans: My last desired pair of jeans that make you look slimmer by Miraclesuit are the Katie Denim Straight Leg. I love them in the color Mystic, sounds so chic!

A-Cup Proud

The NYTimes.com is “For the A-Cup Crowd”! Is bigger really better? NYTimes.com discuss women who are in the AAA-AA cup range, and how the “bigger is better trend”, may not be so true. Many women are all for their “smaller bosoms”. Elisabeth Dale who is the author of Boobs: A Guide to Your Girls says, “The way you are is perfect, and here’s how I can help you.” And we couldn’t agree more!

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/02/fashion/02Small.html

Below are Q&A’s to common fit questions from smaller busted women, and fantastic bras that will cater to your natural figure. So ladies, flaunt what you’ve got!

Q: I’m proud of my natural petite figure, but I wouldn’t mind some “umph” in my bra. What bra would work for me?

A: We hear ya’ and certainly have a bra that provides enhancement. Our Maidenform’s Like Magic Extreme Push-up Bra is flattering with a plunging neckline, and adds 2 cup sizes!

Q: I’m a AA cup, and I’m looking for a bra that doesn’t have all that padded-stuff, but would still like to have an underwire to give some shape. Can you help?

A: Yes! We have a great bra for this. Our Wacoal Petite Contour Underwire Bra is fabulous. It is a seamless underwire bra and has a bit of lining (no padding) to prevent show-through. We think you’ll love it.

Q: I am a 30A and find it is difficult to get a sports bra that will work for my small frame. Small cup women need a good sports bra too; can you suggest something for me?

A: Of course. Our PureLime High Impact Wire-free Sports Bra  would work perfect for you! It starts at a 30AA, and caters to women with a smaller frame and a smaller to fuller bust.   Q: I need an everyday comfortable bra that will work for my small frame, and A cups. I prefer no wire, but I find it hard to get a pretty bra that is wire-free.

A: We have just the answer for you.  DKNY’s Sensual Comfort Wire-free Bra is oh-so-comfy. It has a seductive plunging neckline, logo charm on the center gore, and tagless for added comfort.

Q: I am petite and wear an A cup. I seem to have a hard time finding a strapless bra that will fit my frame. Can someone guide me in the right direction?

A: Strapless bras tend to be a bit tricky. However, we have a solution for you. Le Mystère Sculptural Strapless Convertible Push-up Bra is a bra will stay put and cater to your small frame.  Not to mention the plunge front is perfect for low-cut tops.

Hate it. Love it. Or even if you feel “event-neutral” about it: wedding season is here. As I hear stories about Groomzillas, bridesmaids from Hades, and menu disasters, I wonder why more people don’t elope. But, I guess, as long as there are spray tans, dye-able pumps, fancy cupcakes, airbrush makeup, and hairspray, there will be summer weddings.
Am I lying? You most likely have a couple thousand wedding invites to go through and you know what that means. You will need to commit to outfits.
In the rare case that I depart from black (my sartorial standard), I head to the nearest taupe, clay, mauve, or something in the “nude” family. Not only are nudes super hot this season, but they also offer a polished, feminine, no-hassle look. I mean, it’s not your wedding. Why fuss? Go for a flattering dress like this one from J. Crew? Besides, you should preserve your energy for the bouquet toss. You might have to take a chick down if she gets in your way. What? I said “might”.
